8th Thought: Attending My First College Course Week

On the fourth week of October 2015 with dates from 26 to 30, I experienced my first events week in my college life, specifically the SoM Week. It was a week with (mostly) no classes and a week of enjoyment for the students of Asia Pacific College's School of Management (SoM), formerly known as School of Accountancy and Business or SoAB. I had high hopes that it would be a very enjoyable week not only because of reduced class meetings but also of exciting events.

October 26, 2015, Monday, the SoM Week started with a parade led by a marching band. I wasn't able to participate on the parade due to some matters but I believe that it was a tiring and lengthy walk. I was also not able to see the parade depart from the school premises but I was able to see them arriving from the Humabon street as I was on my way to Select convenience store to attend to my "business matters." The participants were holding umbrellas and fans as they walked under the scorching sun. I even encountered my higher year friends at Select all sweaty and exhausted. Good thing they were wearing casual clothing! Good thing I wasn't in the parade! :)

After the students had arrived from that seemingly Death March, the program for the opening ceremony resumed. An opening speech was held focusing on the official announcement of renaming the School of Accountancy and Business to School of Management. It was saddening to me because SoAB sounds better than SoM; and also, how in the world did Accountancy become a branch of management?

After the opening remarks, the program proceeded to an intermission number from the Cheers and Chants Champion, MA151, and the APC Dance Company's dashing guys (according to my block mates). It was followed by the presentation of the Mr. & Ms. SoM 2015 candidates from each course. All-out support from the students of their respective courses brightened up the ceremony. Imagine those screams and cheers coming from the students for their candidates. Deafening.

As the days passed by, my friends Hanna (alcazarhanna.blogspot.com), Winna (ambidwinnad.blogspot.com), Ate Lane (antoniolouize.blogspot.com), Ate Ali (bionaalyssa.blogspot.com) and I attended different seminars (well actually, it's only two) brought to the students by the different organizations in partnership with their sponsors and guests. We attended the seminars namely: Cultural Diversity: A Key to Success by Business Management Group (BMAG) and CSI: Cyber - Awareness on the Digital Environment by Asia Pacific College Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (APC JPIA). These seminars are highly informative and helpful to us students because it will help us in our careers in the future.

Last October 29, 2015, Thursday, APC JPIA held a quiz bee for the SoM Week called Clash of Courses. It was a quiz bee which had questions about different topics from all courses of SoM. It was my third major event in my stay in the organization as a first year representative so I was not that surprised nor tensed. The vice presidents, the president and the adviser felt more of the tense because they were in charge of the vital parts of the event like the slide presentation of questions, score tallying and the like. I was there sitting in a corner welcoming students and jotting down the attendance and also a spectator. Thank goodness I had no crucial roles *insert laugh* I enjoyed the event even if I'm one of the organizers.

Now, behold the most-awaited event of the SoM Week: the Mr. & Ms. SoM 2015 pageant!
Unfortunately, I didn't attend the pageant night because its schedule was 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday and I had NATSER1 classes on the following day. Really hurts me because it's the first pageant that I can attend in my college life. But still, congratulations and good job to the candidates of Accountancy!

It was a worry-free and relaxing week. It somehow gave us a break from all those pressure in academics. Now I look forward to the College Week :)
